Welcome to Dreamvio ("we," "our," or "us"). We built Dreamvio to help you capture, visualize, and understand your dreams. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have regarding your data when you use the Dreamvio mobile application and website (collectively, the "Service").
By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
The short version: Your dream journal is stored locally on your device. We do not sell your personal data. AI features require sending dream text to third-party AI providers, which is disclosed below. You are always in control.2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide
- Dream journal entries — the text, titles, mood tags, and voice recordings you create within the app.
- Email address — if you join the waitlist on our website or contact us directly.
- Support communications — any messages you send to hello@dreamvio.app.
2.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Device information — device model, operating system version, and unique device identifiers, used solely for crash reporting and compatibility.
- App usage data — anonymized, aggregated analytics such as feature usage frequency and session length. This data cannot be linked back to you individually.
- Crash reports — stack traces and error logs generated when the app crashes, used exclusively for debugging.
2.3 Information We Do Not Collect
- We do not collect your name, address, phone number, or payment information.
- We do not use advertising identifiers (IDFA) or track you across third-party apps and websites.
- We do not access your contacts, photos, or location unless you explicitly grant permission for a specific feature.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
- To provide the Service — storing your dreams locally on your device, generating AI videos and interpretations, and enabling Dream Replay.
- To improve the Service — analyzing anonymized usage patterns to understand which features are most valuable and to fix bugs.
- To communicate with you — responding to support requests and sending waitlist updates (only if you opted in).
- To ensure safety and compliance — detecting and preventing abuse, fraud, or violations of our Terms of Service.
4. AI Features and Third-Party Processing
Dreamvio uses artificial intelligence to generate cinematic videos from your dream descriptions and to provide dream interpretations. This requires sending your dream text to third-party AI providers:
4.1 AI Video Generation
When you request a video, your dream text is transmitted to MiniMax (video generation AI) over an encrypted connection. MiniMax processes the text to generate a video and returns it to your device. Please review MiniMax's Privacy Policy for details on how they handle data.
4.2 Dream Interpretation
When you request an AI interpretation, your dream text is transmitted to OpenAI (GPT-4) over an encrypted connection. OpenAI processes the text and returns an interpretation. Please review OpenAI's Privacy Policy for details.
4.3 Voice Transcription
When you use voice-to-text capture, your audio recording is transmitted to OpenAI Whisper for transcription. The audio is processed and deleted after transcription is complete.
Important: AI features are optional. You can use the dream journal, collections, statistics, and all other features entirely offline without sending any data to third-party AI providers.5. Data Storage and Security
5.1 Local Storage
Your dream journal entries, collections, and settings are stored locally on your device using AsyncStorage. This data does not leave your device unless you explicitly use an AI feature or share content.
5.2 Security Measures
We implement industry-standard security measures including:
- TLS/HTTPS encryption for all data transmitted to our servers and third-party AI providers.
- No storage of dream content on our servers — AI requests are processed in transit and not retained.
- Regular security reviews of our codebase and dependencies.
5.3 Data Retention
Dream journal data exists only on your device and is retained until you delete it. Email addresses collected via the waitlist are retained until you unsubscribe. Crash reports and anonymized analytics are retained for up to 12 months.
6. Sharing Your Information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We may share information in the following limited circumstances:
- AI service providers — as described in Section 4, dream text is shared with MiniMax and OpenAI solely to provide AI features you request.
- Analytics providers — anonymized, aggregated usage data may be shared with analytics tools to help us improve the Service.
- Legal requirements — we may disclose information if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Dreamvio, our users, or the public.
- Business transfers — if Dreamvio is acquired or merges with another company, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your data is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
7. Your Rights and Choices
7.1 Access and Correction
You can view, edit, and delete any dream journal entry directly within the app at any time.
7.2 Delete All Data
You can delete all locally stored data by using the "Delete All Data" option in the app's Settings screen. This action is irreversible and will permanently remove all your dreams, collections, and settings from the device.
7.3 Opt Out of Analytics
You can disable anonymized analytics collection in the app's Settings screen. This does not affect core functionality.
7.4 Waitlist Unsubscribe
If you joined the waitlist, you can unsubscribe at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email we send, or by emailing us at hello@dreamvio.app.
7.5 California Residents (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to delete your personal information, and the right to opt out of the sale of personal information. 7.6 European Residents (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have rights including access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and the right to object. 8. Children's Privacy
Dreamvio is not intended for children under the age of 17. The app is rated 17+ on the Apple App Store due to mature dream content themes. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 17. If we become aware that a child under 17 has provided us with personal information, we will take steps to delete such information promptly. 9. Third-Party Links and Services
The Service may contain links to third-party websites and services (such as our social media profiles). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties. We encourage you to review their privacy policies before providing any personal information.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, through an in-app notification. Your continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
